An introduction to Alternative Payment Methods (APMs)

This guide introduces the types of Alternative Payment Method (APM) available with Worldpay and how to accept and process APM payments.

Introduction

Worldpay defines Alternative Payment Methods (APMs) as branded payments other than credit and debit card payments.

Globally, there are many different payment types accepted for goods and services. Credit and debit card payments are the most common form of payment in Europe, although many alternative ways of making payments exist.

Branded Payment Service Providers (PSPs) offer APMs that shoppers use all over the world in a variety of sectors. As a merchant you can use APMs to trade globally and engage with your shoppers worldwide. Using locally recognised payment methods ensures a familiar payment process is available, this increases shopper confidence and merchant revenue.
