Best practice

This section explains what you must do and consider before you integrate the Konbini and Pay-easy payment method with Worldpay’s payment service.

It describes:

Prerequisites

Registration and screening process

There's a two tier registration process for Digital Garage products such as Konbini:

Screening process

The screening process for both types of registration is very similar. We'll work with Digital Garage to make the screening and registration process as easy as possible.

Warning:  Once you decide to offer either Konbini or Pay-easy as payment methods contact us as soon as possible so that the boarding process can start - registration can be a lengthy process.

Basically you'll be screened to ensure:

Website screening

Digital Garage screens your website to see if it's suitable. The things they look for are:

  1. Your URL (Uniform Resource Locator - your web address) must be accessible. If it is protected by a user name and/or password, these must be available to Digital Garage at the time of your application (Digital Garage will not share them with anyone).

  2. Your prices are correct (in JPY) and transparent, with no hidden charges.

  3. The products on the website are the same as those you described on the merchant registration form.

  4. The following information is available and grouped together in a single web page in accordance with The Act on Specified Commercial Transactions:

    1. The name of your company and the manager responsible for sales.

    2. Your contact information.

    3. Your hours of operation.

    4. The payment methods that your shoppers can use.

    5. Your refund policy.

    6. Your shipping policy, including delivery times and fees.

  5. A public Japanese PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) telephone number for shopper queries, which is answered by a fluent Japanese speaker. A mobile number or call forwarded number is not good enough.

  6. An e-mail address in Japan that shoppers can use to send queries. Shoppers must be able to send their enquiries in Japanese and get the answers in Japanese.

  7. The upper limit for payment at a convenience store is JPY 300,000. Your website must respect this. For more information about payment limits, see Transaction limits.

  8. The written language of the website must be Japanese, customer support is accessible in Japanese.

  9. The website must be operated by a company, not an individual.

Payment scenarios

To make a Konbini or Pay-easy payment, the shopper (your customer) gets a unique payment reference. The shopper uses this reference to complete the payment later at a convenience store or ATM, or by internet banking. You, the merchant, must prepare for the following scenarios:

  1. The shopper pays later at a convenience store or ATM.

The payment is in SHOPPER_REDIRECTED status for a number of days and then moves to an AUTHORISED status once the shopper has completed their payment at a convenience store or ATM. The merchant receives delayed notification of payment. Since most payment options are offline, this is the most common scenario.

  2. The shopper pays online using internet banking.

The payment is in SHOPPER_REDIRECTED status for a shorter period of time, and then moves to AUTHORISED once the shopper has completed online payment.
