The Payment tab shows you the result of any risk checks that were made on Visa, Mastercard or Maestro transactions. The types of check and what they mean are shown below.
This shows the result of a check of the country where the purchase was made against the country where the card was issued:
A tick [ ] means that the country where the purchase was made matches the country where the card was issued
A cross [ ] means that the country where the purchase was made does not match the country where the card was issued
A question mark [ ] means that either one of the country IP checks returned an unknown result, and a match was not able to be made
|
For Mail Order Telephone Order (MOTO) transactions, the Country IP Matched check is not shown. This is because the computer used for MOTO transactions is always at your location. |
This shows the result of a 3D Secure cardholder authentication check. It is a service provided by Verified by Visa, MasterCard SecureCode for MasterCard and Maestro, and American Express SafeKey.
A tick [ ] means that the password agreed between the cardholder and the card issuer (for example, Visa) matches the password entered during the transaction. There is a very good chance that the person who made this transaction is the person who's name is on the card. This also means that, in most cases, you are covered by liability shift in the event of fraud on this transaction. For more information about liability shift, see the Cardholder Authentication Guide.
A cross [ ] means that the password agreed between the cardholder and the card issuer (for example, Visa) does not match the password entered during the transaction. There is a high risk that this transaction is fraudulent, and this transaction is automatically refused.
A question mark [ ] means that we did not get any information about 3D secure on this transaction. We advise you to look at other fraud results and make your decision whether to process this payment or not. To learn more about 3D Secure, see the Cardholder Authentication Guide.
This shows the result of a card verification value check on the card used.
A tick [ ] means that the number entered by the customer matches the number held by the card issuer
A cross [ ] means that the number entered by the customer does not match the number held by the card issuer
A question mark [ ] means that the check was not able to be made. This could be because:
the card issuer does not support the check, or the check is refused by the issuer
the CV2 check was not available due to a system error
the transaction is seen as high risk, and has been stopped by the Risk Management Service before Authorisation
These results come from the Address Verification Service (AVS) checks. AVS looks at the digits in the billing address and postcode that is supplied during a transaction, and the card issuer compares these digits to its records.
Example: If the address entered was "12 High Street, Town, TT1 1TT", the card issuer looks at the address "12" and the postcode "11" to see if it has the same digits on record for this card. |
A tick [ ] means that the numbers in the address or postcode matched
A cross [ ] means that the numbers in the address or postcode did not match
A question mark [ ] means that the numbers in the address or postcode were not checked. This could be because they were not supplied by the customer, or by you. Also, some countries do not support AVS checks.
If the address and postcode both match, this shows the lowest risk. If the address and postcode both do not match, this shows the highest risk. A cross [ ] does not always mean a high risk however, because sometimes customers enter the wrong information by mistake (like the postcode in the address box), and you can see this when you look at the address details. When it looks like no mistake has been made, this should be investigated more, especially when other risk checks do not match aswell.
This shows the result of risk checks if you have the Risk Management Service.
If No suspicious activity linked to this card is shown, then this transaction has a low risk of fraud.
If Caution is shown, then this transaction has a moderate risk of fraud. You might want to make more checks on this transaction before you fulfil the order.
If Warning is shown, then this transaction has a high risk of fraud. We strongly recommend that you make more checks on this transaction before you fulfil the order.
