This is a free service available from PayPal that helps protect you, the merchant, from two common claims that your shoppers may make:
This service applies to sales of tangible goods only. Tangible goods are defined as physical goods that can be sent via postal delivery and for which a proof of shipment (PoS) or proof of delivery (PoD) is available. The service dos not cover intangible items like services or digital goods and items sold or delivered in person. Contact PayPal for full details of what is and isn't covered by Seller Protection.
PayPal provide Seller Protection for free, provided the transactions meet several requirements. This Worldpay implementation meets one of these requirements. See the PayPal Seller Protection Overview web page for details of all the requirements.
Note: The Seller Protection service feature is also available for Worldpay HPP (Hosted Payment Pages).
You, the merchant, and Worldpay have the same shipping address saved for each shopper. When Seller Protection is switched on, we send this shipping address to PayPal.
When PayPal receive the shipping address, they store it in the transaction. PayPal also display the shipping address on their payment web page. The shopper cannot edit or modify this shipping address on the payment page.
If you do not have Seller Protection switched on, we don’t send the shipping address to PayPal.
To switch on seller protection, contact Worldpay Corporate Support or your Relationship Manager (RM) if you have one.
Note: V3PP live and test versions do not support the Seller Protection feature.
The Secure Test system is up-to-date and you can use it to test this Seller Protection feature.
However, the simulator is not identical to a real system.
When Seller Protection is off (PayPalShippingAddressSource=noshipping
), an address appears on the PayPal page and you can edit this address. On a real system, no address would appear on the PayPal page.
When Seller protection is on (PayPalShippingAddressSource=order
), an address from the Worldpay order appears on the PayPal page but you cannot edit this address. This is how a real system would behave.
You can also decide whether a test transaction is eligible for seller protection or not. The test system gives you three choices: Not eligible, eligible for unauthorised (i.e unauthorised payments) and eligible for all. “Eligible for all” means the transaction is eligible for “not authorised” and “item not received.”
