About Postepay

Postepay is a reloadable prepaid card service that is branded with Visa Electron or MasterCard, and operated by Poste Italiane in Italy.

Postepay cards are accepted wherever Visa Electron and MasterCard are supported. When a shopper makes a payment, funds are immediately deducted from the card.

A shopper does not need a bank account to have a Postepay card. The shopper must buy the card at a post office and provide identity documents. The shopper must register the card online before use, at which point it is possible to reload the card with further funds at any of the 14,000 post office locations or 4,500 ATMs.

In addition to the standard Postepay card, there are a number of other different types of Postepay card available to shoppers. The following table lists the variations:

All of these variations of Postepay do not change the basic offering. The Postepay product remains a prepaid card whichever variation the shopper decides to take. It is also possible for a shopper to link a Postepay card to the Postepay Mobile app and make payments directly from their phone.

The same shopper can have up to three Postepay cards. Additional Standard or Junior Postepay applications by existing Postepay cardholders are free of charge.  The various costs and limits of the different types of Postepay cards are listed in the table below:

Shopper journey overview

To make a payment with a Postepay card:

  1. On the payment page, the shopper selects the Postepay payment method.

    The shopper is redirected to the Postepay website.

  2. The shopper enters their Postepay card details to complete the payment.

  3. At the end of the shopper journey, the shopper may return on the successURL.

Recipient

Merchants should consider informing their shoppers that:

  • Worldpay AP appears as the payment recipient on the Postepay payment pages (see the Postepay confirmation payment screen above).

To reduce shoppers abandoning payments, reassure them that the Worldpay recipient is not a problem.
