You can reduce your exposure to fraud by using 'cardholder authentication'. If your shoppers join a cardholder authentication scheme, then you can use our authentication feature to identify these shoppers as genuine cardholders, before they pay for their online order. This authentication reduces your exposure to fraud, and increases a shopper's confidence in your site.

Our payment systems support the MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa authentication schemes, so you can check if shoppers are genuine MasterCard or Visa cardholders. Our authentication feature enables the shopper to enter a password to confirm their identity with the card issuer. You can then accept the shopper's payment and complete their order with much more confidence.

Chargeback Liability Shift

If you are enabled for Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode you can be protected from certain fraud-related "I didn't do it" chargebacks on Visa, MasterCard and Maestro transactions worldwide.

According to Visa, over 80% of all chargebacks fall into this fraud-related category.

Liability for this kind of chargeback passes from the merchant to the card issuer for Visa, MasterCard and Maestro transactions, even if the card issuer is not a participating member of the scheme, or if the cardholder is not enrolled.
